Sometimes the best parties are the ones which happen on short notice. You know the type. Some good news comes through, there’s no time to organise entertainment or rent a location, but you want to celebrate and give other interested people the chance to share in the celebration. An impromptu party can be among the best you ever have, because it takes the moment and makes it the focus of a great time for all.

That’s not to say that there is no planning involved, simply that the planning required has to happen at short notice and leaves little room for large scale planning. You have time to organize food and drinks, call around to invite the guests, rustle together a sound system and prepare for the good times to roll. All of this has to happen on short notice, but that’s not a problem if you have a sense of purpose.

If you have the money to do it by yourself, and the inclination to do just that, then there is no problem. If you need to ask people to help with the funding then usually you will find that, as long as there’s a party in it for them, they will be prepared to put some cash towards it.

One reason why such parties are always so much fun is because they are an unexpected and unforeseen event. With no expectations and build-up, they have nothing to live up to. They are, simply put, a beacon of enjoyment among the run of the mill.
